A typeface designed to promote the clear and precise articulation of the English language in poetry and prose.
Anglia was a typeface designed in 1996 during my undergraduate studies at the University of Reading. As a work of type design it was extremely poor. The best that could be said for it might be that I gained some understanding of using Fontographer. Otherwise, it looks largely as if it were drawn by someone who had never actually seen the alphabet before.
Anglia Neue was a chance to rectify that. Conceived in October 2016, the new type was designed for and unveiled during Design Week Tallahassee, in October 2017. The original premise of Anglia was to create a modern gothic - that is some sort of revival of medieval letterforms that could be applicable and usable in the modern day. Anglia Neue set out to achieve this same goal, albeit with an additional twenty years of experience and understanding.
